​Copyright and Licensing Policy

​Copyright

​Authors retain copyright in articles published in Urban Development Issues (UDI).
By submitting a manuscript and agreeing to its publication, the authors grant the Institute of Urban and Regional Development a non-exclusive licence to:

1. publish the article as its version of record;
2. reproduce and distribute the article in digital form;
3. make the article permanently available through the journal’s website, publishing platforms, repositories, databases and indexing services;
4. archive and preserve the article;
5. assign and register bibliographic identifiers and metadata, including a DOI;
6. use the title, abstract, keywords and bibliographic information for indexing, dissemination and promotion of the journal;
7. make technical, linguistic and formatting changes approved during the editorial process.

The non-exclusive nature of this licence means that authors retain the right to use, distribute and reuse their work in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons licence.
The authors’ moral rights, including the right to be identified as the creators of the work, remain unaffected.

​Open-access licence

Articles published in UDI from vol 77, 2026 are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0).
Under this licence, users may:

1. copy and redistribute the article in any medium or format;
2. adapt, transform and build upon the article;
3. use the article for academic, educational, professional or commercial purposes.

These uses are permitted provided that users:

1. give appropriate credit to the author or authors;
2. provide the title of the article and the name of the journal;
3. provide a reference or link to the original publication;
4. provide a link to the CC BY 4.0 licence;
5. indicate whether any changes were made;
6. do not suggest that the author, journal or Publisher endorses the user or the manner in which the article has been reused.

No additional legal or technological restrictions may be imposed that would prevent others from exercising the rights granted under the licence.

​Third-party materials

​The CC BY 4.0 licence applies to the article as a whole unless a figure, photograph, map, table, dataset, illustration or other element is expressly identified as being subject to different copyright or licensing terms.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce third-party materials where such permission is required.
Where third-party material is not covered by the article’s Creative Commons licence, this must be clearly indicated in the relevant caption, note or acknowledgement.
Users wishing to reuse excluded third-party material are responsible for obtaining permission directly from the relevant copyright holder.

​Earlier publications

Articles published before vo. 77, 2026 remain subject to the copyright and licensing terms applicable at the time of their publication, unless a specific open licence is stated on the article webpage or in the article itself.
The fact that an earlier article is freely available to read or download does not automatically mean that it may be reused under CC BY 4.0.
The journal may apply an open licence to an earlier article only where the necessary rights and permissions have been obtained.

​Author self-archiving

Authors may deposit and share the following versions of their articles in institutional or subject repositories, personal academic webpages and non-commercial academic networking services:

1. the submitted manuscript;
2. the accepted manuscript;
3. the final published version of record.

No embargo period applies.
When depositing the accepted manuscript or the version of record, authors should provide:

1. the complete bibliographic citation;
2. the DOI or a link to the article’s official webpage;
3. information about the applicable Creative Commons licence.

Authors should not present an earlier manuscript version as the final version of record.

​Text and data mining

Articles published under CC BY 4.0 may be used for lawful text and data mining, computational analysis and machine-assisted research, subject to proper attribution and the terms of the licence.
Any third-party materials excluded from the Creative Commons licence remain subject to their separate copyright and licensing terms.

​Website copyright

The Creative Commons licence applying to journal articles does not automatically apply to the journal’s website as a whole.
Unless otherwise stated, the journal’s name, logo, website design, navigation, editorial materials and other non-article content are protected by copyright held by the Institute of Urban and Regional Development.
Such content may not be reproduced or used in a manner that suggests affiliation with, sponsorship by or endorsement from UDI or the Institute without prior permission.

​Author agreement

Before publication, the corresponding author is required to confirm on behalf of all authors that:

1. all authors approve publication of the article;
2. the authors hold the rights necessary to grant the Publisher a non-exclusive publishing licence;
3. any required permissions for third-party content have been obtained;
4. the authors accept publication of the article under the applicable Creative Commons licence;
5. all authors have been informed of and accept the terms of this Copyright and Licensing Policy.
