ABSTRACT
The following paper portrays the implementation of Performance Based Navigation (PBN) departure routings for aircraft at German airports. It illustrates the technology, which offers route planning free of fixed ground navigational facilities, and trajectory concentration due to enhanced curve definitions. Based on these technical innovations, possible consequences for the noise distribution and legal noise protection zones within the airport region are discussed. Using empirical sample cases from major German airports this paper explains how collaborative flight route planning will connect airside and land-side use planning. In this context it discusses route placement strategies as well as new modelling possibilities.
